In this pertinent video, Sadhguru shines a light on ghee- a superfood that has been prevalent in the Yogic diet for thousands of years. Traditionally eaten as the first mouthful before a full meal, this food has the unique ability to lubricate the alimentary canal, facilitate the easy passage of food and thereby keep the colon clean. It also increases the cellular aura and creates a greater sense of aliveness in the system.

But why have a clean colon?

“One important aspect of being physiologically and psychologically healthy is you must have a clean colon”- Sadhguru

The pertinence of this superfood in the modern world derives from the increased incidence of colon cancers and intestinal ailments across the world. In fact, colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide and the fourth most common cause of cancer death. Research shows that developed countries are at the highest risk of colon and rectal cancer and that CRC incidence has been steadily rising worldwide, especially in developing countries that are adopting the “western” way of life.

Importantly, the data also says that younger people are seeing higher rates of CRC than just a few decades ago. The incidence rates of CRC for ages 20–49 years were up 47.31% in 2015 as compared to 1975.

So what can be done about this?

Unsurprisingly, one’s diet has a major say in the matter. Different foods have different effects on one’s microflora population and intestinal inflammation.

Consequently, in the Ayurveda and Siddha systems of traditional medicine, no matter the specific grievance, the first step in treatment is to purge the colon. Sadhguru says that the incidence of intestinal and colon cancers would reduce significantly if ghee is consumed in the right quantity and quality. This is a video that will inspire many to incorporate it into their diets.
