Suicide is unfortunately a growing problem in the United States, and around the world.
According to a report from the World Health Organization, India has the highest suicide rate in the Southeast Asia region. In an article from CNN, it was reported that suicide rates in the US are the highest since World War 2. Many psychologists and doctors say that this is not a surprise, given what they’re seeing.
This is even the case among young people – even people ages 15-24 have seen a rise in suicides.
It’s a complicated issue and there are a lot of reasons for this, but a big one is increased levels of depression and anxiety in the population. A sense of loss or hopelessness can be one factor that leads to this – for example, the end of a romantic relationship, loss of wealth, academic failure, loss of family acceptance, or something else. There could also be traumatic experiences from earlier in life that could lead to depression or anxiety that ultimately results in someone taking their own life. Mental health concerns are becoming more and more widespread, with depression being a leading cause of disability worldwide.
