For many relationships and love means different things. Some describe love as a “give-and-take”, being “in-sync” with the other person, knowing each other’s language, or a number of other things.

However, if you look at the divorce rates, they tell a different story. According to the stats, divorce rates skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic. 34% more people were looking for divorces after the pandemic hit, compared to March – June 2019. 31% of couples report that lockdown has “caused irreparable damage” to their relationships. This has even impacted newlyweds – 20% of people who looked for divorce were married in the last five months or less.

Even before the pandemic, love has been a challenging aspect of life for many – not just with significant others, but with close family and friends as well. So what does this say about the nature of love, as most people understand it?

In the video below, Sadhguru talks about the “I love you” mantra, and what it means for many people. For example, what is the true nature of love? What prevents people from loving one another fully? Why do people really get into relationships, on a fundamental level? How does one become truly loving? Can you love humans and other life on this planet even outside of a traditional “relationship”?

Sadhguru explores some of these questions in the video.
