Exam stress can start when you feel that you can’t cope with the amount of studying needed to master the subject matter. It can also be augmented by the pressure exerted by your school or family to do well. You might also be worried that you won’t receive the grades you’ll need for the next course you’re picking, or even for the job you’d like to have.
The ChildLine National Exam Stress Survey revealed that 96% of the 1300 who completed the survey felt anxious and experienced increased stress regarding exams, with 59% feeling pressure from their parents to do well, and 64% saying they have never received any help in dealing with exam stress.
The ChildLine website indicated that in order to lessen exam anxiety many students revealed that they smoked, took drugs, or even started self-harming. Other ways employed as a way of dealing with exam anxiety included skipping meals and drinking alcohol. To further exacerbate this issue, the students expressed an inability to sleep. Although people don’t agree on how to minimize exam fear, everyone does agree that this is certainly no way for children to live their lives.
