“Wear a sweater, it’s cold out.” “Eat your vegetables.” “That’s not how to do it. Do it like this.” “Stop crying.” “You can’t wear that.” “You’re being silly.” “Don’t buy that.” These are statements that many parents have felt the need to make to their children. The parents had good intentions, but is it advantageous to a child to mold them with restrictive influences?

Children are keen observers and often learn by watching and listening to others, especially their parents. Using the right words can help a child become thoughtful and self-reliant. But how to accomplish this? What and how much to say? How much freedom should we give children to make their own decisions?

VVS Laxman asks Sadhguru whether it is okay for kids to be given the freedom to make their own decisions, and whether parents should draw the line at any point.
