On International Yoga Day in 2020, Sadhguru was interviewed by Times Now where he talked about issues like the scientific benefits of yoga, how yoga can bring chemical changes in the system, and more. 

Anxiety issues are becoming much more common and widespread worldwide, affecting around 18% of the population in the US. This anxiety can create turmoil in people’s lives, and create issues at work, at home, and in other areas of life. It can even lead to suicide in some extreme cases. 

While not all anxiety issues can be dealt with the same way, certain yogic practices may help reduce the amount of anxiety and stress that one experiences in life. 

There have been various studies done on the effects of yogic practices. For example, one such study indicated that people who practiced Shambhavi Mahamudra for 6 weeks experienced lower levels of perceived stress and higher levels of well being. Shambhavi practitioners have also been shown to have more restful brain patterns – in other words, the practice has been shown to provide the quality of rest, relaxation, and regeneration that is normally observed in the deepest stages of sleep. 

There was another study released in June of 2020 that showed that Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya in combination with more advanced yogic practices can increase blood endocannabinoids and BDNF (which stimulates brain cell growth) afterwards. That’s why many practitioners report feeling smarter and more alert as they grow older, instead of the other way around. The study was done in collaboration with doctors from different university hospitals, including Harvard University, Indiana University, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center .
