In some religious traditions, it is common to focus on gods as being external to us, special beings who exist outside ourselves. In other religious or spiritual traditions, people may say things like “God is within you,” but what does that really mean, and why might the distinction matter?

In that same vein, why might it be important to think of beings such as Jesus or Shiva not as men but as possibilities? It might mean realizing that Jesus or Shiva exist within rather than outside ourselves, but even that, in and of itself, may not be enough. If so, what might it mean to not just have Jesus or Shiva within us, but to allow that aspect, that possibility, to arise within us?

In this video, Sadhguru addresses these questions in a frank and compelling way, even discussing why Jesus and Shiva may not have been considered “good men” within the societies in which they lived.

In the process of explaining these points, Sadhguru leads us through two amusing anecdotes—one of a little boy visiting a cemetery and one describing a problem with a Shankaran Pillai business venture—to demonstrate how embracing these realizations might help us really come alive.
