Solitude is often not a person’s first choice. Most cultures extol the virtues of social connectivity and communities are structured accordingly. Many people even believe that being alone can lead to depression.

However, many people find a real benefit in doing some things alone. It allows one to enjoy an activity at your own pace, doing it in your own way. It also allows for a quiet focus without having to engage in conversation. Being alone, however, does not seem to be the goal of most people as they strive to find the perfect partner and gather friends. But does being alone provide significant benefits towards spiritual growth?
