Fasting is an ancient practice that was started for spiritual reasons. Today it is promoted as a beneficial detoxification regimen or a method used to achieve speedy weight loss. However, fasting, which is eating little or no food, is not necessarily an effective tool for sustained weight loss. Often, once one starts eating again, much of the lost weight returns.

Scientists state that when you fast, several things happen in your body on a cellular and molecular level. These include a drop in insulin levels, the initiation of cell repair processes, and changes occur in hormone levels which stimulate fast weight loss. So, is it worthwhile to fast on occasion? With so many different fasting methods to be seen in today’s media, which one should one choose?

Sadhguru answers a question on intermittent fasting and looks at its health benefits.
