Her mom supported her during her teen drinking episodes, her miscarriage, and even during her four-month battle with cancer. She was an especial mess while trying to deal with her cancer treatments and simultaneously hold onto her much-needed job. But her dad, on the other hand, took a very different approach. His two modes involved reprimanding her or looking away from her pain, usually preaching “Well, that’s life.” She felt comfort from one parent and totally betrayed by the other.
