When we are a child and we walk in the forest, we point and say, “Look at the tree!”  When we get a little bit older and we have gathered a little more knowledge, we walk in the forest and we say, “This tree is an Oak. That tree is a Pine.” Still, later, maybe we go to school and learn that the name “Oak” really represents a genus of over 600 different, complex species of trees – and now maybe we walk in the woods and we feel compelled to say “That is a Quercus Alba!” This is just one very small way in which we have tried to explain life, and we go on and on like this with every aspect of our world. Is it possible to utilize our natural tendency to distinguish the unique aspects of things as a means to honor the unique life of that thing?
