Enlightenment – this has been the goal for many seekers who wish to achieve self-realization. During the Age of Reason in the 18th century, philosophy, science, and even politics carried the notion that humanity could be improved through rational change. But enlightenment remained elusive for most.
Since that time, people have struggled to better themselves on many different levels. Most efforts were directed toward improvement of the human condition through formal education and environmental upgrades. Both methods did not seem to bring enlightenment or bliss, but, at best, they created better physical living conditions. So, what is enlightenment? Can we achieve it? Is it the same as self-realization, or is it really misnamed and some sort of darkness?
Sadhguru answers a question on why self-realization is referred to as enlightenment.
