Have you ever read a book or article that affected you to the point that you thought about its message almost daily? Maybe soon you started to change your behavior in a positive direction because of those words. Or maybe you woke up with a headache and did not want to reach for a painkiller, but instead concentrated on using your thoughts to ease the pain to the point that an aspirin was no longer needed.

Many people have propounded theories and exercises about the power of thoughts. Often, those with medical problems tell how they helped heal themselves with visualizations and positive thoughts. Other stories relate how people have used positive thoughts along with other methods to accomplish their goals. Can we believe these stories? Are they embellished with exaggerations? Can we really use thoughts to change things for ourselves?
