A rudraksha is the seed of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree. Rudraksha usually grows at a certain altitude in the mountains, mainly the Himalayan region. These seeds are a product of the Himalayan soil and atmosphere thus developing a unique vibration that is beneficial to those on the spiritual path.

“Rudra” means Shiva, “aksha” means teardrops. Rudraksha are the teardrops of Shiva. The legend goes that once, Shiva sat for meditation for a long period of time. His ecstasy was such that it made him absolutely still, unmoving. He seemingly did not even breathe, and everyone thought he was dead. There was only one sign of life—the tears of ecstasy that dribbled from his eyes. These teardrops fell upon the earth and became Rudraksha, “Shiva’s tears.”

Sadhguru speaks about the origin of rudraksha and explains the profound significance of wearing rudraksha beads—a symbolism that one has chosen to become a conscious human being.

I bought a Rudraksha necklace at Isha Shoppe UK some months ago - the one with the smallest rudraksha seeds. Within no time it fell apart - the yarn was ripped. No accident or so, nothing. Just wearing it for some days. Ever since I try to thread the rudrakshas again - with little success. Couldn't turn it back into a necklace, unfortunately.
