In West Edmonton Mall, fortunate shoppers got a taste of Upa Yoga on International Day of Yoga as a group of volunteers decided to spend their entire day in the mall. It started three weeks before the event, when a few volunteers thought of approaching the West Edmonton Mall about offering Upa Yoga on a stage in the mall where they had seen other events happen. They were eager and offered their stage and AV for free.
A beautiful stage was to be set for the guests. The setup was aesthetically planned with 3 TVs, flower decorations along with 4 stand up banners. Printing and delivering over thousand flyers and banners happened seamlessly as volunteers offered to drive halfway to pick it up. To top it off, David’s Tea graciously offered to provide tea for free at the event.
On the day of the event, a beautiful setup awaited the shoppers. Back to back sessions were offered starting at 11 am. A raffle to win “Inner Engineering: A Yogi’s Guide To Joy” book was also set up. Over a hundred people participated in the sessions. Other shoppers stopped to look at the TV screens or the people doing yoga. Due to the community’s interest, Global News TV covered the event.
Nandini shares her experience saying “Many people were surprised that it was being offered free of cost. Many elderly people found it very beneficial as they used to think that yoga would be very strenuous. Spending the entire day offering something so useful and leaving people with online support also was very fulfilling.”
One of the participant shared, “ Okay, now that I have tasted this, I’m very interested. What’s next?” Shoppers who were touched by the sessions at the West Edmonton mall would have never imagined that they will be taking home something so valuable that day.
