Handedness, or hand preference, is defined as having skill and comfort when using one hand over another for tasks such as writing, throwing a ball, or other activities. Some researchers believe that the human hand preference is determined by a person’s genetic makeup. Others believe it is a combination of genetics, environment, and chance.

Similar to other complex human traits, hand preference does not have a simple pattern of inheritance. Children of left-handed parents are more often right-handed and seemly not influenced by their left-handed parents. Is there any basis as to which hand is preferable and why most people are right-handed?

Sadhguru offers a yogic perspective on why it is best to not use the left hand for rigorous physical activity.
