Video games were once a pastime confined to youth. Today people of all ages are indulging in this recreation. Advances in game technology have provided gaming with  storylines and visual experiences that draw people into a captivating virtual reality.

Today’s games have shifted away from button-smashing towards more of an emotional investment. Like a mesmerizing movie series or reality show, games have history and lore. Often the player can escape into scenarios that provide fun and an adventure that they never could encounter in their real lives.

However, like cell phones, are video games preventing people from having real contact with the world? Are they numbing our reactions to real-life violence? Are they addicting? Are they replacing social interaction? How are they particularly affecting today’s youth?
