In Part Three of the Personal Power series, Sadhguru explains that personal power is integral to life beyond the physiological.

The source of creation is functioning in everything, but it’s not a living experience, it’s just something that’s been told to them.  Something that they believe in whenever they’re scared.  Otherwise, of course they’re by themselves.  Yes or no?  God comes in only when you’re scared, isn’t it?  When everything is going well, does he have a place in your party?  No, nobody invites him to the party.

When you’re scared, when things are not working well, that’s when he comes in, because it’s just an idea that you believe.  It is not a living experience.  If it has to become a living experience—if something as powerful as the creator has to come into your experience, there must be some sense of power within you.  Otherwise, these two things will not meet. So material, spiritual or otherwise.

Personal Power for Growing…Quickly!

If we really want to go somewhere quick, you need to generate a certain amount of power.  “Oh no Sadhguru, I’m not in a rush.  I’m willing to go slowly.”  Well, then you have a long life.  Who has a long life?   Only a miserable person has a long life.  If you’re a joyful person, life is too brief; it’s over before you know what the hell is happening.

Misery stretches the length of life.  It is not the years which stretch the length of life.  It is the experience of life.  If it’s a miserable, depressive experience, it’s a long life.  If it’s an ecstatic experience,  it’s poof, it’s gone like that.  So if you think you have lot of time, that’s because you’re a miserable creature.

You have to change that first.  For your own wellbeing and for the mercy of people who are around you.  For both, yes?  Because everybody wants to live with a joyful human being, isn’t it? Do you want to? Everybody else is expecting the same.  So that has to be altered.  Once you change this aspect, that you’re not a miserable creature, you’re a joyful creature.  Life is brief.   It’s too short.  Before you know what’s happening, it’s over.

So if it’s short, being on a fast lane becomes imperative.  You can’t help it.  You got to be on it.  Otherwise, the reason one can slowly is because they think it’s a long life.  Whatever few years that people have lived, they refer to it as a long life.  No.  But what this existence is, if you live here to be 100, it’s still a very brief life.

If you’re exploring a nature of life, it’s a very brief life because, a million years is not enough to know what this is.  It is too phenomenal and too fantastic.  But if you’re missing everything and living in the misery of your mind, only then it’s a long life.  And one gets trapped in the psychological dimension of one’s life, because the necessary power of life is not there to transport you to other aspects of life.

Practices Provide the Gas for your Tank

Without power… suppose there’s no gas in your tank.  You have, let’s say, a six-liter engine in your car, and you have gas in the tank.  Booom.  Will it go?  No.  If there’s no gas in the tank, it doesn’t matter what else you have—it doesn’t roar.  It ticks.  Conserve energy, then only, it roars.  Only if it roars, you can make it go places.  Otherwise, you must sit in a stationary car, and wait for sunrise and sunset and think you’re going somewhere.

So the practices, the yoga, is all about this essentially.  Because without this, nobody gets anywhere.
