You may have received a comprehensive education and earned a degree, and even landed a career that, after years of work and experience, you feel that you have mastered. But do you feel you have mastered your body, your mind, or your emotions? Can you say that you have achieved inner joy, and that you act in unison when it comes to these three things?

What does it mean to be master of oneself and not be pulled every which way by events or our inner reactions? Sometimes our feelings and thoughts drag us in opposite directions; this makes for uneasy situations, allows room for anxiety, and makes it difficult to settle on decisions. Sadhguru looks at how the human body and the cosmos itself, is essentially made of five elements: space, air, fire, water, and earth. He explains that every yogic practice is essentially about Bhuta Shuddhi, the cleansing of the elements. He also explains that if we sufficiently cleanse them, we can move into Bhuta Siddhi, or mastery of the elements.
