The subject of many poems, stories, and films — love at first sight. Just saying the words conjures scenes of sparkling romance and feelings of carefree bliss, accompanied by a chorus of birds singing sweet melodies.

The Greeks labeled love at first sight as “madness from the gods” (theia mania). It included love’s arrows shot by Cupid. It was explained as an immediate attraction, when one felt inexplicably charmed by a person. Later, the poets of southern France, in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, spun the European courtly love tradition. At that time, the source of the love arrow was not Cupid but a woman’s eyes. Many an opera and song through the centuries revolve around the magic, and at times tragic, consequences of love at first sight.

But story and song aside, is love at first sight to be trusted? How real is it? See below as Sadhguru answers this question.
