Many people will swear by the power of certain foods, personal care products, and even exercises or practices to support healthy lifestyles. In fact, there’s so much information available out there that it can be difficult to know where to start and which options might work best for us. Some reliable sources may even make opposing recommendations about, say, what to eat or not eat. Where might we find time-tested recommendations? What does the yogic tradition, backed by thousands of years of knowledge and wisdom, have to say on these subjects?

In this video, Sadhguru talks about 5 things one can include in their lifestyle to help them become healthier and increase their immunity. He shares the following secrets that are traditionally followed in India, and one can clearly feel their effects on the system if undertaken with enough awareness.

  1. Black sesame: It is very rich in antioxidants and also is a rich source of iron, copper, zinc and Vitamin B and E. It improves cartilage and bone joints, encouraging heart health.
  2. Horse gram: This is one of the most protein rich lentils found on the planet. It’s good to sprout it. If one sprouts it, it can just be eaten raw. This will increase heat in the body. If one eats it on a hot day and they feel too much heat then it must be balanced by eating sprouted green gram to cool the system.
  3. Honey: Take hot water, add a little bit of Honey, a bit of turmeric and some pudina or coriander.  Drink this every 3 hours to prevent respiratory infections. All the respiratory infections first lodge themselves in the throat and then they go into the respiratory tract but if you drink warm water with honey turmeric and coriander or pudina then that goes into the stomach bag and there they’re not very effective and cannot cause much damage to you.
  4. Amla soaked in honey: Soak the Gooseberry or the amla in honey overnight along with some broken black pepper and eat three spoons three times a day. All these things work best when you have them on an empty stomach. If you do these things you can see a significant increase in your immune system within 4 to 8 weeks.
  5. Simha kriya: Studies have been done in Harvard Medical School which show how this simple process called Simha kriya enhances your immune system and also improves your  lung capacity. It also alters the way oxygen distribution happens in the system.  It involves the breath in a certain way so that if one finds some difficulty in doing it, they clearly know that there is something wrong with your respiratory system.
